Q12101 - INFO: TERAVoice Server 2008 RC1

We are pleased to announce that the first release candidate of TERAVoice Server 2008 is available and ready for download: There are quite a few things you need to know, so please read the following information carefully: Licensing This beta version is available as "Retail" as well as "Demo" flavor of the product. In case you are an existing customer, please contact us and we will provide a download link for the Retail version. In case you do not own a retail license yet, please download the Demo version and you can use a license code which you can get at our website for TERAVoice 2004. Please note, that the Demo version won't work with CAPI boards if you have a previous version of TERAVoice installed (CAPI support only works for 30 days no matter which TERAVoice version you install, unless you have a retail license). Setup and Installation
  1. You can install this version parallel to an existing version of TERAVoice, but you should make sure not to run two versions at the same time!
  2. Prepare your hardware (CAPI based ISDN boards, TAPI hardware) and make sure all required drivers are installed
  3. Run TERAVoice 2008 RC1 Setup
  4. Display the ReleaseNotes at the end of the Setup and read them carefully
  5. You can also start the administration console and enter the license code now, but you could also do this later.
  6. If you own a retail version you can copy the license.cfg file from the existing installation to the new versions “TVShare” folder to avoid activation.
  7. Reboot your computer
Configure the SIP TSP In this version no further configuration of the SIP TSP is required for internal SIP devices.  Optional: Configure an external SIP provider If you have an account with an external SIP provider (or you want to connect to an existing SIP PBX/infrastructure) you can add this as a new profile now. This step is optional.
  1. Open Control Panel >> Phone and Modem Options >> Advanced
  2. Select “TERASENS Service Provider for SIP” and click on “Configure”.
  3. Click "Add"
  4. Enter the name of your provider (e.g. sipgate.net)
  5. Select "Provider/Proxy" as "Type"
  6. Enter your registered display name (not the login name. e.g.: John Doe)
  7. Enter the SIP URI under which you are registered at the provider (e.g.: 12345@sipgate.net)
  8. Select "Number/Name" for the format
  9. Go to the "Proxy" tab
  10. Select both check boxes
  11. Enter the proxy address (e.g. sipgate.de or proxy.mydomain.com)
  12. Enter username/login and password
  13. Enter the Realm/Domain (e.g. sipgate.de)
  14. Go to the Media tab
  15. Here you can choose your codec preferences. For low bandwidth connections you should move GSM, iLBC or Speex 8k to the beginning of the list, whatever your provider supports.
  16. Go to the "Advanced" tab
  17. If you are behind a firewall with NAT (network address translation), you need to select "Use STUN"
  18. Click OK to close
Configure TERAVoice Please start the TERAVoice Administration Console to configure TERAVoice now
  1. Enter and activate your license if you haven't done yet
  2. Right click on "Telephony Hardware" and see if your hardware devices and the configured SIP lines are listed. Check all devices you wish to use
  3. Go to internal lines and select the lines for internal phones (typically this will be the SIP lines configured as "Server" type and the H.323 line
  4. Click OK to save and close
  5. Right-Click on "Monitor" or "Server Monitor" to start TERAVoice.
  6. Select "Server Monitor" to see if TERAVoice is running or view the event log below to see if any errors have occured
  7. A mailbox is configured as the default extension. This will allow you to test inbound calls.
  8. If you are using ISDN or other hardware, you can now try to make a call from external to see if you can listen to the mailbox greeting. (this would also work if you have configured an external SIP provider)
Configuring internal SIP Phones You can connect SIP phones with static mapping (by specifying an IP address) or through SIP registration at TERAVoice which acts as a proxy server. To add a SIP phone:
  1. Right-Click the dial plan and select "New SIP Extension"
  2. Enter a name for the extension and an extension number (e.g. 301)
  3. TERAVoice uses a Variable Length DialPlan. This means, there can be an extension with the number 20 and other extensions with the numbers 21223, 21224 while 20122 would not be allowed if 20 exists.
  4. Find the newly created extension in the list, right-click and select "Properties"
  5. Select "SIP Options"
  6. Either: Select "Static Mapping" and enter the sip URI for your statically mapped SIP device (BTW this can be a real phone or just a softphone like SJPhone or X-Lite etc.)
    Or: Have the SIP client register with TERAVoice. In this case you only need to specify a password.
  7. Select the SIP line in the combo box below
  8. That's it, no other settings need to be made so far
To configure SIP clients, you will use the hostname or IP address of the computer running TERAVoice as the proxy server. The default Authentication Realm/SIP Realm/SIP Domain (naming depends on your client) is “teravoice.local”. The username is the internal phone number that you have chosen. Note: For easier configuration you could also set the default SIP realm which TERAVoice is using to the computer’s hostname, so you won’t need two different values for SIP Proxy and SIP Realm. (Server Configuration >> PBX Configuration >> SIP Settings). Configuring internal H.323 Phones The configuration for H.323 phones is similar, therefore it is not described in detail. To make a call from an H.323 phone (hardware or softphone) you need to configure the TERAVoice server machine as a Gateway. TERAVoice does not provide gatekeeper functionality. But you can use TERAVoice in combination with a 3rd party gatekeeper without problems. In this case the gatekeeper is configured in the H.323 devices and TERAVoice is configured as a gateway in the gatekeeper configration. Inbound Assignment TERAVoice now provides two methods to assign inbound calls to internal extensions:
  • The Inbound Router Can be added like other extensions and provides rules for mapping called numbers from ISDN or SIP services to internal extension numbers.
  • Direct Assignment This is the same like in previous TERAVoice versions. Simply open the property sheet of an extension and add an assignment entry. For example if you want to map inbound ISDN calls made to extension 301 to the internal extension 301: Open the property sheet for extension 301, add an assignment entry where you enter 301 as MSN/Extension and select a certain device (if you have different external devices) or leave it as "Any"
Outbound Calls To make outbound call, TERAVoice uses the concept of "Outbound Routers". These can be configured like normal extension, but the extension number is meant as a dialing prefix. So, if you wish that clients dial "0" to get an outside line, you add an Outbound Router with extension number "0". In the configuration of the Outbound Router you can enter conditions and time and date schedules to specify how and through which external lines outbound calls are made. (Outbound Routers can also be used for least cost routing) Configuration API If you want to have a look at the new configuration API, you can open Visual Basic (or just Word or Excel's VBA) and select "Tools >> References" or "Project >> References" and browse to the file "tvConfig2.dll" in the TERAVoice folder. Press F2 to open the object browser and select tvConfig2 from the list to the all available objects and properties. Some samples will be available soon.
